About Firefox Mozilla Firefox is a free, open source, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and hundreds of volunteers.

Mozilla Firefox is a free, open source, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and hundreds of volunteers. Firefox includes tabbed browsing, a spell checker, incremental find, live bookmarking, a download manager, and an integrated search system that uses the user's desired search engine. Functions can be added through add-ons created by third-party developers, the most popular of which include the NoScript JavaScript disabling utility, Tab Mix Plus customizer, FoxyTunes media player control toolbar, Adblock Plus ad blocking utility, StumbleUpon (website discovery), Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer (bookmark synchronizer), DownThemAll! download enhancer, and Web Developer toolbar.

I'm sure I would love Firefox 3, but I can't use it because I have Mac OS X 10.3.9. That is the one frustrating thing about Apple is that there is little software that is backwards compatible. Microsoft almost always makes drivers and software backwards compatible. It'd be nice if Mozilla broke Apple's trend of leaving those who are just a couple releases behind and made new software available t...

[Mac] Trunk will require Mac OS X 10.3 at runtime, need to use 10.3 SDK
I thought that this was well-known information, but Benjamin said in bug 349777 that he hadn't heard about this at all. In order to support some of the new technologies in the pipeline for Gecko 1.9, we need to obsolete runtime support for Mac OS X 10.2. The new minimum system requirements will be Mac OS X 10.3. Some developers have been operating on this assumption for a while, and it may already be that trunk builds don't work properly on Jaguar. Specifically, we need to obsolete 10.2 in order to accommodate the new gfx layer and the cocoa widget toolkit. Builds that currently use the 10.2.8 SDK need to have their mozconfigs updated to point to a 10.3 SDK. On build machines running 10.3, this SDK is named MacOSX10.3.0.sdk. On build machines running 10.4, it's MacOSX10.3.9.sdk. Universal builds don't need any configuration changes, because the SDK is selected automatically and was already adjusted in bug 349777. Specifically, any configuration on the trunk that has this line: ac_add_app_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.2.8.sdk should be changed to this, if the build host is running Panther: ac_add_app_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.0.sdk or this, if running Tiger (although I don't think we've got any non-universal Tiger build machines): ac_add_app_options --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.9.sdk Mark ...

Dropping Mac OS X 10.4 support in Gecko 1.9.3
In September of 2009 we stopped supporting Mac OS X 10.4 ('Tiger') on mozilla-central but we left much of the code required to support that platform in the tree in case we wanted to reverse that decision. We have come to a point where we need to make a final decision and either restore 10.4 support or remove this (large) amount of 10.4 specific code. Here are usage numbers from 2010-01-25: Firefox 3.5 10.6 (Darwin 10.x): 1,497,221 (26%) 10.5 (Darwin 9.x): 2,855,842 (50%) 10.4 (Darwin 8.x): 1,379,770 (24%) All versions of Mac OS X: 5,732,833 ...
I need tips for migrating from seamonkey 1.x on Mac OS 10.3.9
I will soon purchase a new Mac for my friend, who is using Seamonkey 1.x on her trusty iMac G3 with OS 10.3.9. I'm thinking I want to set up the new machine on the home network, install Seamonkey latest release, but don't migrate her mail/profile immediately. After she gets over the shock (new machine is a surprise) we will change her ISP profile so her existing email accounts point to the new machine. She has been using Seamonkey as her browser and mail client. This should be a slam dunk migration, but any advice would be appreciated, thanks. ...
Dropping Mac OS X 10.4 support in Gecko 1.9.3 #2
While Mozilla may think that dropping support for Mac OS X 10.4 is a good idea, you're dead wrong. There is no need to do this; it's a short-sighted plan to avoid supporting well over a million users who are still running 10.4 for various reasons; i.e., they can't afford to upgrade their equipment; 10.5 and 10.6 drop or break features that work perfectly well in 10.4; that upgrading would require them to purchase new versions of software that works perfectly well under 10.4; or even that many people think both 10.5 and 10.6 suck. I don't care what Apple's unstated...

Updated to Firefox 3.5.3, but version still lists as 3.5.2 (Mac OS X 10.4.11 on G4)
.. . . After upgrading to 3.5.3 (and doing a browser-menu Help>Release Notes opening a tab showing it's 3.5.3), I find the computer's hierarchical listing of applications still shows version 3.5.2, and selecting its icon for a command-get info brings a window identifying it as version 3.5.2. 1. After digging into what Keyfixer does, I've put together an updated version 0.3 that should work for Firefox 2.0.0.14 and Firefox 3.0 beta 5 (tested on Mac OS X 10.5.2). The new solution performs patches instead of straight copies of the keymapping xml file, so I'm hoping it is more robust against future changes in Firefox.
  2. Even the Mozilla Firefox ESR version for OS X 10.6.8 is a year old now. Mozilla Firefox ESR last update for OS X 10.6.8 was last May 2017. So, no more supported web browsers for OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, any longer. Here is the last Firefox ESR supported version here. Firefox 45.9 ESR.dmg install file here.
  3. Note: If you have Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard), you will need to download OS X El Capitan before you can upgrade to the latest Mac OS. While insecure versions of Firefox will continue to work on OS X 10.8 and earlier, using an up-to-date version of Firefox on a supported version of Mac OS will provide you with the best and safest.
